Methacton’s District 1‑6A title hopes came to an end Tuesday night when the Warriors lost 61–54 to Coatesville at home, a semifinal that shifted on a key blocked shot and a dominant second half from Red Raiders’ senior Larry Brown.
The game, played Feb. 24 in a packed Methacton gym, changed immediately after halftime when Methacton ran a well‑designed inbounds play that appeared to set up an easy layup for Jahmir Carter before Brown came flying in to block it.
That single play sparked a run in which Brown scored 18 of his game‑high 24 points in the second half, helping No. 3 Coatesville take control and overshadow a strong effort from No. 2 Methacton.
The Warriors entered the night on a 10‑game home winning streak and stayed close early, trailing just 32–25 at halftime after both teams traded scoring runs in the first two quarters.
Methacton opened the fourth quarter with an 8‑0 run led by John Leet, Cole Webb, and Ben DePaul, cutting a 12‑point deficit to four–48-44– and bringing the crowd back into the game.
Coatesville responded each time the Warriors threatened, with Brown scoring eight of the Red Raiders’ 13 fourth‑quarter points and finishing a key three‑point play with just over three minutes left.
Leet led Methacton with 17 points, while Mason Conrad added 11 and Webb scored eight as the Warriors continued to find good shots despite facing a clear size disadvantage in the paint.
Methacton’s defense held strong in stretches, but Coatesville’s rebounding and physical play near the basket made it difficult for the Warriors to finish stops.
Coatesville struggled at the free‑throw line, going 9‑for‑22 overall and 5‑for‑14 in the fourth quarter, but Methacton could not take full advantage of those missed opportunities.
Despite the loss, Methacton played No. 5 Souderton on Saturday in the District 1‑6A third‑place game, which will help determine their state playoff seeding. The Warriors won that contest, 61-46.
The Warriors have bounced back from tough losses before, and they will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for the PIAA Class 6A tournament beginning March 7. They will face Whitehall High School at home. Whitehall is the No. 3 seed out of District 11.
