The Methacton Theater Department, Tri M, and the school’s GSA hosted their second annual Trivioke night early last month.
Attendees were able to participate in music trivia run by Tri-M and sing in the open karaoke, all to help fundraise for the groups hosting the event.
“It was initially a Tri-M event for music trivia and had been running for a few years,” said chorus teacher Mrs. Francisco.
Since the fall karaoke night was so successful, some of the sponsors thought it would be a good idea to run another similar event for students.
“Tonight was very successful and reflected the goal I have been trying to make happen along with Fran and Fitz to bring students from different social genres together and find that we really aren’t that different. We all share the love of music. I hope students felt included and hopefully encouraged more students to try the performing arts at MHS,” said Mrs. Naylor, an MTC sponsor. GSA sponsor Mr. Light agreed that combining clubs for the event was a good idea.
“We wanted to join forces and just do something for the fun of it,” he said.
Ms. Francisco said that her favorite part of the event was the solidarity.
“Seeing all the different groups coming together to interact, they’re great support systems for each other,” she said, adding that Tri-M is very compartmentalized. Because of that she enjoyed seeing the Tri-M members interact with students in other organizations who share similar views.
While the big win for the event was the feeling of community, there were other, smaller wins during the evening.
Sophomore Jonathan “Subs” Subranni was a part of the winning trivia team.
“I feel good,” said Subranni, adding that his favorite part of the night was singing by himself and with friends during karaoke.
Senior Abby Drummond was a member of the second place team.
“We did very good. First is the worst; second is the best,” she said.
Her favorite part of the night was hanging out with friends.
Junior Aubrey Wheeler was part of the third place team.
“It’s on the podium,” she said with a smile. Her favorite part of the night was that it was one of the cheaper social events that almost anyone could attend and have fun.
