The unified track team celebrated their 15 seniors on April 16 prior to their meet against Spring-Ford and Upper Merion.
Both partners and athletes competed in events such as the 100m, 400m, long jump, mini javelin, and shot put.
Senior Matt Baldwin, who ran the 800m and 4×100 m, said that his events went well. Baldwin and senior Avinash Joshi both agreed that it is sad to have the season come to an end, but they have had many fun memories.
“Just the bus rides are my favorite. Everybody is listening to music and singing together,” Joshi said.
Another member of the team, Emily Taylor, has been a part of the unified track for three years.
“It’s a really happy vibe,” she said, adding that she is going to miss her friends and getting to know everyone on the team the most when unified track is over.
Mr. Alzamora, who coaches with Mrs. Quintois, said there is one major reason he continues to be a part of the team.
“It’s because of the family-like atmosphere. It is the best over here at Methacton.”
While the team did not win the meet, the Warriors had some individual highlights.
Sophie Rosti crossed the finish line first in the third division 400m, and Matt Baldwin placed second in the 800m. Aiden Ludwig finished first in the second division shot put with a 4.7m throw. Vance Olsen also hit a personal record of 4.67m in the long jump.
Meghan O’Donnell said a number of reasons exist why students should consider joining unified track and field.
“They should join if they want to meet new people, make some friends that you probably wouldn’t hang out with outside of the club, and expand their horizons.”
