Evan Jones threw a perfect game on April 2, 2025 against Perkiomen Valley. The Warriors won 5-0 as Jones recorded all 21 outs without allowing one player to touch base. PV was the number-one team in the district at the time down.
“It’s my first perfect game ever, so it was awesome,” said Jones.
Jones has an ERA under one on the season thus far, plus an unblemished record, headlining his senior season.
Jones struck out the side in the first. Next, Colin Carr helped his pitcher by launching a homeroom to deep right field. The Warriors did not look back. Jones ended the second inning with two more strikeouts. The Warriors’ ace had nine by the end of the fifth.
Jones, who has one of the top batting averages on the team, helped himself in the sixth with runners on second and third. He sent a pitch to left field, scoring both runners on a double. The Warriors had taken a 5-0 lead when Jones stepped to the mound with three outs to go.
“I think we ended up getting a couple runs in the top of the sixth so it was five to nothing, so that’s when I kind of realized. I was like oh… well now I have to get it.”
He struck out the first two batters, which led to the final and toughest out of the game.
Jones has his pitches called from assistant coach Matt Sperling. Occasionally, Evan will waive off a pitch, but coach Sperling said Evan did that just once the entire game.
“I think it was the 1-2 pitch. I tried to throw a fastball up and in and [the batter] hit a foul ball,” said Jones who would find himself worked into a full count, his first three-ball count of the game.
Jones said he took a deep breath and refocused. On the subsequent pitch, the batter sent a grounder to the Wake Forrest recruit who threw to first to record the final out and to earn the perfect game.
