Track and field teams celebrate their seniors

The track and field teams celebrated their seniors on April 30.

Methacton celebrated the senior track athletes on April 30 before the last dual meet of the 2024 season against Owen J. Roberts.

Every athlete got his or her own banner hung on the fence around the track to honor their time as a Warrior.

Many of the seniors were able to compete in events that they typically would not. For example, the boys who typically throw the javelin, shot put, and discus, were able to run in the four-by-one hundred meters. Akhil Yeluri, normally a middle-to-long-distance runner ran the 200-meter dash.

Following all of the track and field events, the senior boys were able to draft their teammates and make an all-Methacton boys four-by-four-hundred relay team to compete against the other Methacton squads.

After the races, jumps, and throws were complete, the seniors lined up in the end zone on the football field for recognition. The graduating athletes, interlocking arms with their parent(s), walked across the field.

While they were walking, Mr. Bontempo announced their plans for college, their favorite memories and their words of encouragement for their teammates. The underclassmen sat on the sidelines, registering that their time with the seniors was coming to a close.

After the ceremony on the field, both the boys and girls teams were treated to meals of fresh fruit, pizza, and other refreshments in the commons and cafeteria. Many parents of the athletes on the booster clubs assembled the decorations and helped serve the food for the night. The girls team also had underclassmen tell stories about their senior teammates and relive those close moments in front of friends and family.
