MHS volleyball hosted its annual Dig Pink game on Oct. 4, the proceeds from which would benefit the Side Out Foundation, a non-profit that uses 100 percent of its fundraising to battle metastatic breast cancer. The players, the crowd and the main gymnasium were decked out with pink. Streamers, balloons and handmade posters outfitted the bleachers and walls.
Through the sale of raffle tickets and T-shirts, the team raised about $3,200, $700 more than their game last year. Not only does Dig Pink raise funds, but also promotes awareness about a disease that affects millions of families every year.
For player Sophie Rosti, the cause has a particular meaning. Both her grandmother and aunt have suffered from breast cancer, while her family has fought for years to help support them. Sophie expressed her appreciation to be able to “help others while playing the sport she loves”.
Hosting the Owen J. Roberts Wildcats, the varsity squad won in three sets, the final tally being 25-19. Standout players for the Warriors included Caroline Welsh, Kayla Ginther, Mianna Ly and Rachel Pettine.
The Warriors currently rank third in PACs with a 15-3 record. The team is working towards making PACs and districts.
