On Thursday, November 8, the Medicine and Science Club successfully hosted their first Coffeehouse of the year! This event is conducted to raise money for different charities, but also to have an absolutely fun time with friends, perform, or have a nice cup of hot chocolate!
According to club President Taylor Lee, “Other than making money for our charity, we love seeing all the students get together and have a fun time.” Lee claims that it’s a great space for everyone to relax after a long day of school. She had also mentioned how the club loved hosting it as a team due to the fact that “it gives the Medicine and Science Club something to work towards and think about during our meetings.”
This year, the Club is donating to a local charity called the “MDDS Foundation” rather than their formerly chosen well-established charities such as St. Judes. This foundation researches a rare neurological disorder called Debarquement Syndrome. Secretary Ashish Jeyapratap had said the reason for this change was so “we can see where our money is going and support a local foundation.” Jeyapratap has felt this new modification to the Coffeehouse is very significant and will have a greater, tangible impact on our community.
”I love volunteering in the Medicine and Science Coffeehouse!” Katie Young, Head of Technology, says cheerfully as she makes hot chocolate orders. Performer Cece Cavallo remarked, “ I’m always up to come out and perform, especially for Coffeehouse evenings because I know I’m supporting an important cause.” According to the club teacher/advisor Mr. Adoff, the Medicine and Science Club will have at least one more coffee house event before the end of the year, so make sure to come!
