
Students from the high school competed at the Special Olympic games hosted by Spring-Ford on May 8. The event welcomed eight districts. Each athlete participated in three events: the softball throw, the standing long jump and the 50-meter run.
The cloudless, hot day kicked off with an opening ceremony during which Methacton was welcomed first. Each district followed with their respective mascots and chosen songs.
MHS brought 12 athletes, each with a student buddy. After each event, athletes and their buddies traveled to the ribbons table to retrieve their prizes. Spring-Ford students were on hand to assist at and score the events as well. Their efforts showed how a school can come together to help and give support.

MHS students can help support events like these by joining the Unified Sports and the Best Buddies Clubs on campus.
According to Special Olympics PA, their mission is, “to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.”
