Methacton’s Girls Tennis Team had a very strong season this year, winning the team PAC championship with an undefeated 11-0 season. In addition to the team PAC championship, this year’s top singles players, senior Anika Suresh and sophomore Chelsea Lian, took home the PAC doubles championship as well.
Even though they haven’t played together as doubles partners before, the pair has gotten extremely close over the past year since they train at the same tennis clinic, Lian said.
“It was really nice to play with Anika. We’re really close and that helped us be able to win the whole thing.”
The semifinals and finals took place at Perkiomen Valley High School on Friday, October 2nd. The duo defeated Upper Merion’s Chloe Dean and Lily Hamric 6-0, 6-2. They were able to carry that momentum into their finals match against Phoenixville’s Vivona Xu and Elise Pham 7-5, 6-0, earning the gold medal.
Suresh has been a valuable player to the team, being a varsity athlete throughout high school. She accomplished her number-one item on the bucket list for her tennis career at Methacton.
“It’s my senior year and I wanted to win one PAC tournament, and now we’ve done that,” she said.
Having coached tennis at the high school for over 14 years alongside JV coach Val Danze, Coach Jill Walker remarks, “I am very proud of this team. They put forth a lot of enthusiasm and hard work from day one of the season! It’s also really nice to witness a team that supports and cares for one another. In all of the years I have been coaching it is obvious to see that when a team gets along well that contributes to a winning season. We had a great group of girls this season and I am very happy for them that they accomplished their goal of winning PACS.”
