The Methacton girls soccer team had their senior night on Thursday, September 26. They played the Boyertown Bears.
The senior recognition segment happened before the game when 10 seniors were recognized: Abby Arnold, Maddy Coppola, Lily Herzog, Alyssa Lineen, Lila Murray, Misha Patel, Katie Rozinsky, Maddie Washburn, Avalina Willis, Nina Tommarello and Alina Miao.
Abby Arnold, the team manager, plans to study biochemistry in college while playing basketball. Maddy Coppola has been playing since 7th grade and plans to go to college. Lily Herzog is going into marketing at Pitt; Alyssa Lineen has played Methacton soccer for all four years of high school and is going to college. Lila Murray has played soccer for seven years and is college-bound as well. Eight-year player Misha Patel plans to go to a Big-10 school for finance; Katie Rozinsky, who has been playing for Methacton for four years and has been on varsity for three years, will go to college. Maddie Washburn has played soccer for eleven years and plans to study chemistry at the post-secondary level before, hopefully, returning to Methacton to teach and coach soccer. Avalina Willis has played soccer throughout high school and plans to go to a four-year university for business. Nina Tomarello has played for 12 years, and she will be studying biochemistry in the pursuit of going to medical school. Alina Miao, who will major in business at college, has played soccer for 13 years.
The team also recognized the Boyertown seniors. They were given flowers in commemoration.
Then, the game began. Close saves were made by both teams as possession rapidly switched over the course of the first few minutes. Among Methacton’s close saves were one in minute 8 of the first half, and another about 30 minutes in.
The teams were tied at 0 – 0 at the end of the first half. The energy in the stands was excited as the end of halftime neared. The marching band was practicing nearby, and the mysterious tones of the songs they were playing contrasted the chatter from the crowd.
Ten minutes later, the second half started. Boyertown scored the first goal of the game about nine minutes in. When the 20th minute arrived, the mood became much more tense. Boyertown scored another goal at the 26th minute.
Then, Boyertown almost scored again; they almost scored again; Methacton came close. Boyertown made the last goal after 37 minutes into the second half, bringing the final score to 3-0.
Although the game was a loss, the team was still happy to be celebrating their seniors. Senior Katie Rozinsky said that she would like to give a “big shoutout to the [rest of the] senior class for a great senior season, although the record doesn’t show it.”
