MHS celebrated the newly inducted National Honor Society students with a special ceremony on Oct. 7.
The juniors and seniors sat in the auditorium, alongside family and friends, awaiting the moment they would be joining the club. The introduction to the ceremony included a short welcome from counselor Ms. Langan and a student-selected speech from English teacher Mr. Dill.
Next, inductees’ club memberships and accomplishments were listed as a way of recognizing their involvement at MHS. The audience also learned about the inductees’ future interests, including entering fields of study such as science and medicine.
As the inductees walked across the stage, they would stop to sign the Methacton National Honor Society notebook, a permanent symbolization of their new membership. The inductees would then walk across the remainder of the stage to take pictures with their certificates and a candle. The candle is representative of the four pillars of the NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
The 2024-25 school year’s NHS officers–President Victoria Fan, Vice President Max Wu, Treasurer Mianna Ly, and Secretary Madison Roeger–presented their goals and ideas, hoping that they would leave their mark in their chapter of Methacton’s NHS. They will lead the club’s meetings and direct its efforts toward improving the Methacton school environment and surrounding community.
NHS candidates were selected based on their grades, which had to be at or greater than a 90 percent accumulated unweighted GPA, and on their behavior records. Following this, students are notified through email to then complete the required application process, which is filled with essays, letters of recommendation, demonstrations of their service work, and interviews. Students may be recommended to the club starting their junior year.
