This Saturday MHS Helping Paws put together their annual Howl-o-Ween Fest at Heebner Park. Eva Rojas, freshman member of Helping Paws, sums up the day as “A good event day with a lot of donations, everyone loves dogs,” with sophomore Lorenzo Vernacchio adding on “I’m only here for the dogs.”

The day started off with officers Alaina Fazzini, Khwaisn Kapoor, Kiera Hartman, and Adelaide setting up for the event at 8:30 am. The Howl-o-ween Fest lasted from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with multiple fun activities. There were many fun treats for sale, both for the dogs that came through and for the humans walking them. Dog items included dog cookies with a variety of flavors (chocolate chip, pumpkin spice, and snickerdoodle), some bagged doggie treats, and the ever popular pup-cups. Human items included: cupcakes, Halloween candy, cookies, and cakepops. There were also lovely crochet goodies made by club president Adelaide, such as Bee plushies and earmuffs.

Other than the mouthwatering snacks and fun toys, a doggie costume contest was held. The owners got very creative with their dogs, it was hard to pick a favorite! There was Teddy who came dressed up as a bear making him a Teddy Bear, which his owner was very proud of. One of Teddy’s friends, Ginger, showed up dressed as a lovely flower. There was also Mango the zombie dog and Roxie the Home Goods employee. See I told you, people got creative! It seemed that everyone was in favor of  little Teddy and his Bear costume.

It ended up being a wonderful day for both the dogs and humans. Helping Paws raised $467 for the charity Canine Partners for Life, which as member Oliva Branca put it, “It is a great foundation that helps all the dogs in need.” All of the club members want everyone to know about their love for dogs and what a great cause Canine Partners for Life truly is. If you missed this Helping Paws event, don’t worry, they host events throughout the year for you and your dogs. So Happy Howl-o-ween everyone and to all of the dogs out there!
