MHS’s Reading Olympics team competed in a county-wide competition this month, scoring enough points to earn a Blue Ribbon.
This event, sponsored by the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, is a great opportunity to grow literacy and teamwork skills with others through the love of books.
Participants had to not only read many different genres of young-adult literature but also had to find ways to analyze the text, remember key details, and find ways to collaborate with the other members of the team to sufficiently cover all the books in the provided list.
The team worked together as a well-coordinated team to score enough points to get the highest award in the event. Students who participated included Rithika Adiseshan, Rachel Diltz, Margot Ferrara, Suhyun Park, Navisha Rastogi, Joshitha Sabbineni, Lena Smoyer, and Joshitha Thathineni.
Because understanding and evaluating literature, understanding vocabulary, and being able to communicate the information to others are crucial testing taking and life skills, students should consider joining the team next year to help increase these skills.
Students in grades four to 12 can participate in this event in different divisions and at different skill levels.
