The boys cross-country team reached the PIAA AAA State Championship on Nov. 6, for the first time in the team history.
The Warriors placed 13 and beat their long-time rival, Owen J. Roberts by 37 points. The boys team lost three times to OJR this season prior to states.
The team’s leaders placed as follows: senior Vaughn Lackman finished 22 in 16:35; senior Chris McGlynn, 86, in 17:25; senior Bryan Landsberg, 93, in 17:28; senior Tristan Landsberg, 184, in 18:13 and sophomore Matthew Sandner, 192, in 18:18. Freshman Charles Reith and junior Mathew Behan competed for the Warriors as well.
The Warriors top three runners beat Andrew McGonigle, OJR’s top runner.
The school record was broken twice this season, first by McGlynn in 15:41 and again by Lackman in 15:31. The team placed fourth in districts.
“This was an impressive season that will go in the history books. The team worked hard throughout the season and made statements every race to the teams competing against them. It was great to see the team reach it’s true potential,” said head coach Steve Savitz.
